We are too pleased to share that, 12 students from dalit and ethnic families successfully passed the 3rd level public examination 2016 called Secondary School Certificate (SSC) in Bangladeshi national education system. These students are from socially neglected and so called “untouchable (!)” families. Numbers of barriers like- isolation, negative attitudes of greater communities, poverty, hunger and social stigma was unable to prevent them from their journey towards success!
There are 52 students (23 girls and 29 boys) of dalit and ethnic communities residing in GBK operated HOME (Holistic Opportunities for Meritorious students Education) with support from HEKS, Switzerland and GBKs own contribution. HOME was started in 2009 with the dream of developing “Change Maker” among these generations. The students from ethnic and dalit communities reside at HOME, study in nearby education institutions. We are proud that, 12 of them appeared in SSC examination in 2016 and all successfully passed this public exam. Through this, they overcome an important step towards dream!
This is the first time in the lives of these communities that 12 students passed SSC examination together!
